Marc Adelsheimer, MD

Dr. Marc Adelsheimer is an expert in regenerative orthopedic procedures, utilizing bone marrow concentrate (containing a patient’s own live stem cells), Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP), and Prolotherapy to effectively treat conditions such as osteoarthritis, tendonitis, ligament tears, and more. He specializes in interventional pain management, having performed roughly 40,000 interventional procedures—including approximately 4,000 regenerative procedures—and over 30,000 fluoroscopically guided spinal procedures.

Dr. Adelsheimer is board-certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) since 1996 and was board-certified in Pain Medicine from 2002 to 2022. He earned Master Certification from the Interventional Orthobiologics Foundation (IOF), representing the highest certification available in Interventional Regenerative Orthopedics.

A Pittsburgh native, Dr. Adelsheimer graduated cum laude from Duke University with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1987. He received his Medical Doctorate from the Medical College of Pennsylvania in 1991. He completed his residency training in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at New England Medical Center/Tufts University from 1991-1995, serving as Chief Resident in his final year.

Dr. Adelsheimer has practiced medicine for over 30 years, initially focusing on interventional pain management before shifting his primary focus toward regenerative medicine. Recognizing that regenerative treatments offer a superior path to pain relief and functional restoration, he founded Regenexx Pittsburgh, evolving from his previous pain management practice. He has partnered with Regenexx since 2012.

Passionate about improving his patients’ quality of life, Dr. Adelsheimer approaches treatment by considering the whole person, aiming not only to reduce pain but also to significantly enhance daily function, whether related to sports, hobbies, or routine activities. He finds great satisfaction in hearing his patients share their successes—from running marathons and hiking mountains to playing golf or enjoying time with family.

Dr. Adelsheimer is an active member of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (AAPM&R) and the Interventional Orthobiologics Foundation (IOF). Although he currently does not engage in formal teaching or speaking engagements, he has previously given multiple professional presentations.

Outside his professional pursuits, Dr. Adelsheimer enjoys hiking, skiing, and golfing. He is also actively involved in his community, serving on the board of his local synagogue, Temple Sinai.
