Paul S. Lieber, MD

Dr. Paul Lieber specializes in Interventional Regenerative Orthopedic Medicine, utilizing advanced treatments such as Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP), Prolotherapy, and bone marrow concentrate procedures to augment patients’ natural healing process for conditions including osteoarthritis, tendonitis, ligament tears, spinal axis, and musculoskeletal pain. With extensive expertise, he has successfully performed over 30,000 procedures since 1995.

Professional Journey

Dr. Lieber became interested in regenerative medicine in 1998, three years after he began treating patients with spine conditions amenable to interventional procedures. What started as palpation-guided prolotherapy using dextrose to cause controlled tissue injury advanced to platelet-rich plasma in 2008. He joined Regenexx in 2012, finding it to be the best option with the most extensive research data, a highly knowledgeable Chief Medical Officer, well-designed courses, and a supportive network of like-minded physicians.

His practice has evolved from treating primarily spinal conditions to providing comprehensive treatment for all musculoskeletal system issues. Dr. Lieber is particularly passionate about regenerative procedures for highly motivated patients seeking pain relief and improved functioning, enjoying both the treatment process and developing relationships with positive outcomes.

Education and Training

A Pittsburgh native, Dr. Lieber completed his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at Hobart College in 1975, a Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology from Antioch New England University in 1978, and earned his Medical Doctorate from the Chicago Medical School in 1986. He completed his residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in 1990.

Leadership and Recognition

Dr. Lieber is a past president (2012-2014) and current board member of the American Association of Orthopaedic Medicine (AAOM), actively advancing the field since becoming a member in 2002. He is recognized as a leader in both the AAOM and the International Orthobiologic Foundation.

He has received numerous recognitions, including Pittsburgh Magazine’s “Best Doctors” for multiple consecutive years, The Dean’s Award for Service from the Chicago Medical School, and the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Association of Orthopedic Medicine.

Teaching and International Work

Dr. Lieber has been deeply involved in medical education, training pain fellows, residents, and medical students locally. He has spoken at numerous conferences, primarily for the AAOM, and has taught internationally, participating in AAOM-sponsored medical missions, primarily in Mexico.

Master Certification

Dr. Lieber is Master Certified by the Interventional Orthobiologics Foundation, the top certification possible in Interventional Regenerative Orthopedics.

Personal Interests

Outside of his medical practice, Dr. Lieber is an avid cyclist who attempted to make the Olympic road racing team in 1976. He continues to enjoy cycling, as well as skiing, hiking, and more recently, playing blues bass guitar.
