The Medical Fitness Difference
By now you’ve likely heard about RAPS newest venture, our Medical Fitness program. The doctors at RAPS pride themselves on treating each individual by looking at the whole picture, and making sure to not miss anything at all. Over the years, the doctors have helped many patients improve their health and well-being using a variety of treatments.
So where does medical fitness fit in?
Many doctors are great at suggesting that patients incorporate diet and exercise into their lifestyle. This helps with recovery from current ailments and prevent future problems. At RAPS, some of the conditions that patients see the doctors for may have been preventable by a more proactive attitude towards health and wellness.
This lifestyle changing approach to wellness is much easier said than done, and that is exactly where medical fitness comes in.
This concept is taking a total new approach to health. Typically, health care is reactive in nature. Instead of trying to prevent heath issues, we go to the doctor once we are sick or injured. But what if we looked at things a little differently? Medical Fitness is all about a proactive approach rather than reactive. We want to prevent as mainly illnesses and ailments as we possibly can, so that they are never a problem in the first place.

What kind of things can be helped with the medical fitness approach?
Diet and exercise work to prevent or sometimes reverse the effects of heart disease, type II diabetes, stroke, hypertension, high cholesterol, and of course obesity. It positively impacts things like cholesterol levels and help regulate blood glucose.
This approach helps to regulate your metabolism which can streamline a number of internal bodily functions. It also helps to normalize digestion and decrease chronic inflammation.
Furthermore, with targeted exercise it is possible to strengthen muscles, bones, ligaments, and tendons that were injured in the past, or are at risk of becoming injured. Corrective exercises help to reverse environmental effects encountered in the workplace, such as the negative effects prolonged sitting at a desk job has on our posture (poor posture can lead to a number of back and upper extremity problems, by the way).
There is certainly a reactive component to medical fitness as well. Exercise can certainly benefit some underlying issues that the RAPS doctors are seeing patients for. It can greatly benefit the outcomes of a regenerative procedure, and can help to get you back to optimal health afterwards.
What else is involved?
The model behind medical fitness is based around the therapeutic nature of proper nutrition and exercise. However, RAPS realizes that there is more to the equation. RAPS medical fitness is built

to address other factors that may be a problem when trying to reach health and fitness goals. Some of these things include:
- Medical History
- Stress management
- Sleep hygiene
- Habits that are counter-productive (i.e. smoking, excessive alcohol or caffeine intake, etc.)
- Mindset and motivation
RAPS is more readily equipped to address other aspects of exercise and nutrition such as:
- Slow Metabolic rate
- Medication interactions
- Muscular imbalances
- Mobility problems
- Improper movement patterns
